Well, you know what they say about artists? They tend to have restless hearts.

John Mayer once shared a black and white shot of himself playing guitar on Instagram, to which an admirer replied, "Beautiful!" "How are you still single?"

Mayers response was short. "Google me," he responded. And in those two words, he said it all.

John Mayer is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. And he is, without a doubt, one of the most intriguing celebrities. Unfortunately, his reluctance to settle down has caused quite a few breakups.

In 2009, Mayer stated that relationships tend to freak him out. "I don't know if you know this. I have sort of a funny track record," he said. "I'm a little freaked out right now about it, to be honest."

Calling his dating record "funny" is a serious understatement. His love life was a rollercoaster ride that would make even Leonardo DiCaprio jealous.

We have compiled a list of eight celebrity women Mayer has dated, and we know you will find it interesting. It says a lot about him. Even though he is born in 1977, it appears that he is still a boy at heart. Take a look, and you will see what we mean by that:

1. Jennifer Love Hewitt

Mayer was rumored to have recalled enough about what they did that summer to create "Your Body Is a Wonderland," the second single from his debut album, Room for Squares, which became one of his biggest hits.

"My body is far from a wonderland," Hewitt told EW.com in 2007. "My body is more like a pawnshop. There's a lot of interesting things put together, and if you look closely you'd probably be excited, but at first glance, not so much."

However, in an interview with Michael Rosenbaum on the podcast Inside of You, the 9-1-1 star acknowledged that while it wasn't real (as far as she knew), she was flattered that others thought it was. She answered, "That's a genuine compliment."

Mayer, for one, revealed on VH1 Storytellers that he composed the song about his first girlfriend when he was just 14 years old, and that it was initially called "Strawberry Wonderland."

2. Jessica Simpson

Simpson decided to have some fun when her marriage to Nick Lachey ended. She also left an impression on Mayer who reportedly told Playboy in 2010, almost three years after they split up:

"That lady, to me, is like crack cocaine. It was insane on a sexual level. That's all I have to say on the subject. It reminded me of napalm, sexual napalm."

That was a bit disrespectful. Simpson agreed, and it was a frank exchange Mayer would grow to regret.

"It's more embarrassing (than anything else), 'cause I'll walk into a restaurant or something and I'll notice more men are looking at me," Simpson, pressed for her reaction, said on The View in 2010. "And he'll never have this napalm again."

When they actually broke up for good, in June 2007, one source told People,

"They broke up Sunday night, but who knows what the future will hold. This is the twelfth time they've broken up. Their relationship is volatile. Last week they felt better than ever. This week, things are rocky. Who knows what the future will bring?"

3. Cameron Diaz

Moving on from Simpson in 2007, Mayer was briefly linked to the Charlie's Angels actress. She'd recently broken up with Justin Timberlake, so why not get "very flirtatious" with Mayer in New York?

4. Minka Kelly

They were dating for a short period in late 2007, and neither of them wanted to make a big deal about it.

5. Jennifer Aniston

Mayer dated the Friends star from 2008 to 2009, dating her on and off from one Oscars party to the next. But after their first summer breakup, he let the world know what had happened by yelling to a few paparazzi outside his New York gym, declaring himself "a man who ended a relationship."

Aniston found it amusing,

"He had to put that out there that he broke up with me. And especially because it's me.
It's not just some girl he's dating. I get it. We're human. But I feel seriously protective of him and us.
Trust me, you'll never see that happen again from that man. And it doesn't take away from the fact that he is a wonderful guy.
We care about each other. It's funny when you hit a place in a relationship and you both realize, We maybe need to do something else, but you still really, really love each other.
It's painful. There was no malicious intent. I deeply, deeply care about him; we talk, we adore one another. And that's where it is."

They once again reconciled, but all was done by March 2009.

"I'll always be sorry that it didn't last," Mayer told Playboy. "In some ways, I wish I could be with her. But I can't change the fact that I need to be 32."

6. Taylor Swift

Mayer tweeted in March 2009  that he was working on a song and wanted to perform it with the 19-year-old artist

"I'm waking up with a musical idea that won't go away. Now it's been three days in a row. That is to say. It is good enough to be finished. I want to sing it with Taylor Swift and it's called 'Half of My Heart.' In contrast to my Tom Petty song, she would make a fantastic Stevie Nicks."

They did come together to record "Half of My Heart" for his 2009 album Battle Studies, which was released in November, and they performed live together on multiple occasions.

Swift, on the other hand, made sure that people kinda-sorta knew what was going on, even if he did not make the same mistake as Aniston. She publicly said that he was the one who left.

He later told Rolling Stone that he was pretty devastated by the 2010 song "Dear John," which called out a certain fellow's "dark, twisted games." He believed that, in this case, he

"didn't deserve it. I'm pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do."

7. Katy Perry

Things soon picked up for the famous singer - he started dating Perry after her divorce from Russel Brand.

"I actually am dating my crush. I had a crush on him for a long time," she stated.

They were on and off for two years, until 2015 when they finally decided to call it quits. Perry moved on, and Mayer was stewing a bit, saying,

"Who else would I be thinking about?" he told when asked about speculation that "Still Feel Like Your Man" was about Perry.

"And by the way, it's a testament to the fact that I have not dated a lot of people in the last five, six years. That was my only relationship. So it's like, give me this, people."

8. Halsey

After fans speculated that the "Bad at Love" singer and Mayer were trying to tell them something with their public flirting on social media in 2018, Halsey—who had just divorced G-Eazy for the second time—reminded them that not every spark meant a fire was burning.

"I just had a groundbreaking idea," they tweeted when the speculations went overboard. "What if...we let female artists...have friends...without assuming that they are sleeping together? I know I know. It's like, completely ambitious but like, imagine if we like, tried?"

John Myer will surely earn a place in the “Casanova Hall of Fame.” He once stated that he had dated more than 500 women.

We can only ask - how does he find time to write and play music? His time-management skills should be taught at colleges.
